New scan could pinpoint elusive tumors, spare patients risky procedures

NCT ID NCT03346954

Summary

This study tested a new type of combined PET/MRI scan to see if it could better find the tiny pituitary tumors that cause Cushing's disease. The goal was to improve the accuracy of diagnosis so that surgeons have a clearer target, potentially leading to more successful operations and reducing the need for an invasive diagnostic procedure. It involved 33 adult patients with confirmed Cushing's disease who were scheduled for surgery.
