Swab test could replace risky lung procedure for pneumonia diagnosis

NCT ID NCT06890078

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests new, non-invasive methods (nasal swabs and mouth rinses) to diagnose pneumocystis pneumonia, a serious lung infection in people with weakened immune systems. Researchers will compare these simpler tests to the current standard, which requires a bronchoscopy or induced sputum. The goal is to see if the new methods are accurate enough to replace the more invasive procedures.
