New scan could replace painful liver biopsies for iron overload
NCT ID NCT04171635
Summary
This study tested a new type of MRI scan called QSM to measure iron buildup in the liver. The goal was to see if this scan is more accurate than current MRI methods, which can be thrown off by fat or scarring. Researchers compared the new scan results with direct chemical analysis of livers removed during transplants in 55 patients with thalassemia major.
