New scan could spare thousands of women from unneeded breast biopsies

NCT ID NCT05206331

Summary

This study is testing if a special type of mammogram, called contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM), can help doctors decide which suspicious breast findings truly need a biopsy. The goal is to reduce the number of biopsies performed on non-cancerous lumps by at least 20%, while still catching over 95% of cancers. About 2,100 women with findings rated as 'suspicious' on a regular mammogram will get the CEM scan before their scheduled biopsy to see if it changes the doctor's recommendation.
