New tool aims to end guesswork in lifelong blood thinner use

Summary
This study is testing a new decision-making tool to help patients and doctors decide how long to continue blood thinners after a first unprovoked blood clot. The goal is to better balance the risk of another clot against the risk of serious bleeding. It involves 2,400 adults who have completed 3-6 months of initial treatment and uses personalized risk scores to guide a shared conversation about continuing or stopping medication.
