Common body compound tested as potential liver disease treatment

NCT ID NCT07276204

Summary

This study is testing whether betaine, a natural substance already in our bodies, can help reduce liver damage in people with MASH (a serious type of fatty liver disease). Seventy adults with MASH will take either betaine pills or placebo pills for 24 weeks while also following standard lifestyle advice. Researchers will use blood tests and MRI scans to see if betaine improves liver health more than the placebo.
