Could common supplements help control blood disorder damage?
NCT ID NCT07157722
Summary
This study is testing whether adding antioxidant supplements (N-acetyl cysteine or alpha-lipoic acid) to standard treatment helps protect blood vessels in adults with beta thalassemia. Sixty-six patients will be divided into three groups receiving either standard care alone or standard care plus one of the supplements for 12 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in artery wall thickness and blood markers of inflammation and oxidative stress to see if the supplements provide additional benefit.
