This study tests whether beta-blockers, a type of blood pressure medicine, can reduce the risk of bleeding from small varices in people with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. About 763 adults with small varices will receive either beta-blockers or a placebo for up to 3 years. The goal is to see if the drug lowers the chance of serious liver complications like bleeding or liver failure.
