Heart healing hope: Beta-Blocker may spark new muscle growth in infants

NCT ID NCT04713657

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This early-phase study tests whether the drug propranolol can stimulate heart muscle cells to divide and grow in infants born with Tetralogy of Fallot, a serious heart defect. About 40 babies under 60 days old will receive propranolol before routine heart surgery. Researchers will examine discarded heart tissue to see if new muscle cells formed. The goal is to understand how heart regeneration works, not yet to cure or treat heart failure.
