New drug combo aims to tame transplant complication

NCT ID NCT07643025

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a combination of two oral drugs, ruxolitinib and belumosudil, for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGvHD) that hasn't improved with steroids. cGvHD is a serious condition where donor immune cells attack the patient's body after a stem cell transplant. The study enrolls 63 adults with moderate to severe cGvHD. For the first month, patients take ruxolitinib alone, then add belumosudil for up to 48 weeks. The goal is to see if the combination controls the disease better than either drug alone.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

belumosudil and ruxolitinib

What this could lead to

If this combination works, it could offer a new treatment option for people with chronic graft-versus-host disease that doesn't respond to steroids, potentially improving symptoms and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase (phase 2) study with only 63 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The combination may cause side effects or not work better than existing treatments.
