Can getting busy help veterans drink less and heal from trauma?
NCT ID NCT06249386
Summary
This study tested two different talk therapy approaches for U.S. military veterans dealing with both alcohol use disorder (AUD) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Ten veterans received eight sessions of either Behavioral Activation, which focuses on increasing rewarding, alcohol-free activities, or Relapse Prevention, a more traditional therapy. Researchers measured changes in drinking, PTSD symptoms, and daily functioning, and also used GPS tracking to see if getting out more was linked to recovery.
