New study peers inside lungs of ventilator patients to uncover hidden instability

NCT ID NCT07265882

First seen Jan 07, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study looks at 100 patients with acute respiratory failure who are on a breathing machine (ventilator). Researchers want to measure lung instability, which happens when parts of the lung open and close with each breath. They will use a safe, quick test already used in clinics to see how unstable the lungs are and link that to other health data like blood oxygen levels and CT scans. The goal is to better understand lung function in critically ill patients, not to test a new treatment.
