New study probes hidden esophageal risk in purging disorders

NCT ID NCT06532734

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looks for Barrett's esophagus, a condition that can lead to cancer, in 25 adults with eating disorders who have been purging (vomiting or ruminating) for at least 5 years. Researchers will use a simple, non-endoscopic test to see how common Barrett's is in this group. The goal is to better understand the risk and whether current screening guidelines should be updated.
