Anti-Inflammatory drug could boost stroke recovery after clot removal
NCT ID NCT07449910
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding the anti-inflammatory drug baricitinib to standard clot-removal treatment helps people recover better after a severe stroke caused by a blocked artery in the front of the brain. About 750 adults will receive either baricitinib or a placebo for five days, and their level of disability will be measured three months later. The goal is to see if calming brain inflammation can reduce long-term disability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Baricitinib (an anti-inflammatory drug)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new way to improve recovery and reduce disability after a major stroke by adding an anti-inflammatory drug to standard clot-removal treatment.
What could go wrong
This is an early-to-mid-stage trial (Phase 2/3) with 750 participants. The drug may not improve outcomes, and there are risks of infection or other side effects from baricitinib.
