Surgery rewires taste buds: study probes why patients crave less fat

NCT ID NCT02497274

Summary

This study aimed to understand why people eat less fatty and sugary foods after weight-loss surgery. Researchers examined 50 obese patients before and six months after surgery to see if the operation changed their taste buds and how they perceive fat. They collected tiny samples from the tongue and measured taste thresholds to learn if surgery directly alters taste, which might explain changes in food choices.
