New balloon treatment challenges heart stents in major trial

Summary
This study is testing whether a new type of drug-coated balloon works as well as the current standard treatment—a drug-coated metal stent—for opening up narrowed heart arteries. It will involve 1,820 patients with coronary artery disease to see if the balloon is just as effective and causes fewer serious side effects like heart attacks or major bleeding. The goal is to find a good treatment option for smaller heart arteries where stents can be less ideal.
