Gut Bacteria's sneaky path to wound infections revealed in new study

NCT ID NCT03554148

First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at how bacteria from the gut might travel to other parts of the body during abdominal surgery and cause wound infections. About 209 adults having planned abdominal surgery will provide skin, gut, blood, and tissue samples. Researchers will use DNA sequencing to track bacteria and see if their presence in the liver or lymph nodes predicts infection.
