Which antibiotic works best for hidden anal chlamydia?

NCT ID NCT03532464

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested two common antibiotics—azithromycin and doxycycline—to see which one better treats anal chlamydia in women who also have a vaginal chlamydia infection. About 460 women took part. The goal was to find out if one drug clears the anal infection more effectively, since untreated anal chlamydia can lead to repeat vaginal infections and serious health problems.
