Antibiotic trial aims to tame childhood kidney disease Flare-Ups

NCT ID NCT07320612

Summary

This study tested whether adding the antibiotic azithromycin to standard steroid treatment helps children with a kidney condition called steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome. It involved 160 children aged 2-14 years who were randomly assigned to receive either the standard steroids alone or steroids plus azithromycin. The main goal was to see if the combination helped children achieve remission (reduced protein in urine and improved symptoms) faster and reduced the chance of the disease flaring up again.
