Can a single antibiotic dose help starving children gain weight?

NCT ID NCT06010719

Summary

This study aims to find out if adding an antibiotic to standard nutritional therapy helps young children with severe, uncomplicated malnutrition recover faster. In Burkina Faso, 3000 children aged 6-59 months will receive either a single dose of azithromycin, a 7-day course of amoxicillin, or a placebo, alongside therapeutic food. Researchers will measure which group gains the most weight over 8 weeks and recovers nutritionally.
