Ultrasound showdown: which vein route wins for catheter placement?
NCT ID NCT01543360
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 132 people who needed a central venous catheter (a thin tube placed in a large vein). Doctors compared two ultrasound-guided methods: one using the subclavian vein (under the collarbone) and one using the axillary vein (in the armpit). The goal was to see which technique successfully placed the catheter within the first two tries. The study is complete and aims to improve how this common procedure is done.
