Robot anesthesiologist? computer tries its hand at pain control

NCT ID NCT03556696

Summary

This study tested a new computer system designed to automatically give patients a strong painkiller (remifentanil) during surgery. The system used the patient's heart rate, blood pressure, and a special pain index to decide when to give the drug. Researchers wanted to see if this automated method could use less total medication compared to the standard way anesthesiologists give it.
