Smart drain device aims to ease brain fluid testing for seniors
NCT ID NCT07494812
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study is testing a device called Intellidrop that automatically drains fluid from the spine during a standard test for normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). The device monitors pressure and controls drainage, which may reduce errors and make the process more comfortable for patients. Ten adults aged 60 and older with suspected NPH will use the device during their hospital stay to see if it is feasible and acceptable.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Intellidrop Automated CSF Drainage System (device)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this device could make lumbar drain trials easier and more comfortable for patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus, potentially improving care.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small feasibility study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The device may not show clear benefits over standard care.
