First seen Mar 21, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This pilot study tested a protocol for a future Canada-wide trial. It looked at whether using a patient's own blood during heart surgery reduces bleeding, the need for donated blood products, and complications. 64 adult heart surgery patients at high risk for bleeding were randomly assigned to receive their own blood or standard donated blood products. The main goal was to see if the study procedures were practical and effective.
