First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

This study tests whether auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture) can reduce pain after outpatient surgery for thumb arthritis. Sixty adults undergoing endoscopic thumb surgery will receive either real or sham ear acupuncture. Pain levels will be measured from day 1 to day 3 after surgery using a standard pain scale.

Active substance

auriculotherapy (ear acupuncture)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to manage pain after thumb surgery, potentially reducing reliance on painkillers.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 participants. The effect may be small or no better than a sham procedure, and results may not apply to other types of surgery.
