Ear acupuncture may cut Long-Term pain after breast surgery
NCT ID NCT05126615
First seen Jul 16, 2026 · Last updated Jul 17, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether adding auriculotherapy — a type of ear acupuncture using cold spray — to standard pain management can reduce the chance of chronic pain three months after mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction. Ten women scheduled for this surgery will receive the ear treatment and then report their pain levels using standard questionnaires. The goal is to see if this simple, non-drug approach can prevent persistent post-surgical pain.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- auriculotherapy (cryospray on specific ear points)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to lower the risk of long-term pain after breast cancer surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small, early study with only 10 participants, so results may not apply widely. The effect may be no better than standard care alone.
