AR training helps med students deliver better simulated births

NCT ID NCT07391085

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether an augmented reality (AR) training module helps medical and midwifery students perform better in simulated vaginal births. 389 students from Chile and Colombia were randomly assigned to either standard text/video preparation or the same plus an AR module. After training, all students completed a simulated birth, and their skills were scored by blinded evaluators. The goal was to see if AR could improve early competency in this critical skill.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a scalable, low-cost way to improve hands-on training for medical students learning vaginal birth procedures.

What could go wrong

This is an educational study, not a clinical treatment trial. Results may not translate to real-world birth outcomes or apply to all training settings.
