Brittle bone disease may also affect balance, new study investigates
NCT ID NCT05419960
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether children and young adults (ages 12-20) with osteogenesis imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease, have problems with their hearing and balance. Participants will undergo hearing tests and special balance assessments, and some may get CT or MRI scans. The goal is to find out if balance issues are linked to the genetic type and severity of the disease.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors better understand and detect balance problems in people with osteogenesis imperfecta, leading to improved care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study with only 44 participants, so results may not apply to everyone with osteogenesis imperfecta. It does not test any treatment.
