Heart rhythm study tests new ablation strategy

NCT ID NCT05921734

Summary

This study compared two different approaches for catheter ablation, a procedure that uses heat or cold to create small scars in the heart to stop irregular heartbeats. It involved 480 adults with persistent atrial fibrillation who had not responded well to medication. Researchers tested whether aiming to stop the irregular rhythm during the procedure itself worked better than completing a standard set of ablations and then using an electric shock to restore normal rhythm.
