Could a single At-Home swab detect COVID, flu, and RSV?

NCT ID NCT07217639

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will test a new at-home diagnostic test that aims to detect five respiratory viruses—COVID-19, influenza A and B, RSV, and rhinovirus—from a single nose swab. About 2,000 people with cold or flu symptoms will provide samples in simulated home environments. The test's accuracy will be compared to standard lab tests to see if it can reliably tell which virus is causing the illness.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Metrix Respiratory Panel Test (diagnostic test)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a convenient, accurate at-home test for multiple respiratory viruses, reducing the need for clinic visits.
What could go wrong
This is an early validation study in simulated home settings, not real-world use. The test may not perform as well in actual home conditions or with different virus strains.
