New nasal cannula design tested to ease breathing in respiratory failure
NCT ID NCT06204276
First seen Apr 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 11 times
Summary
This study tested whether an asymmetrical high-flow nasal cannula (a tube that delivers oxygen through the nose) works better than the standard version for people with acute respiratory failure. Forty adults with low oxygen levels received both types of cannula at different flow rates in random order. Researchers measured breathing effort using ultrasound and checked breathing patterns, oxygen levels, and heart function. The goal was to see if the new design reduces the work of breathing.
