Ambulance video calls could revolutionize stroke triage
NCT ID NCT07657117
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether having a neurologist consult via video during ambulance transport helps decide the best hospital for suspected stroke patients. About 484 adults with stroke symptoms will be randomly assigned to standard care or standard care plus a telemedicine consultation. The goal is to see if this reduces unnecessary stroke alerts and gets patients to the right treatment faster.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Telestroke triage (live video consultation with a neurologist)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could show that telemedicine in ambulances helps get the right stroke patients to the right hospital faster, reducing wasted resources and improving outcomes.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early-stage study (not yet recruiting) testing a process, not a treatment. It may not show clear benefits, and telemedicine could cause delays or technical issues in real emergencies.
