Can a baby aspirin prevent strokes as well as a full dose?

NCT ID NCT05868525

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a low dose (81 mg) of daily aspirin works as well as a higher dose (325 mg) to prevent strokes in people who have injured blood vessels in their neck or head. About 98 adults with blunt cerebrovascular injury will be randomly assigned to one of the two doses. The goal is to see if the lower dose can prevent strokes with fewer bleeding complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that a lower dose of aspirin is just as effective at preventing strokes after a neck or head vessel injury, with fewer side effects.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study (98 people), so results may not be definitive. Aspirin can cause bleeding, and the higher dose may increase that risk without preventing more strokes.
