Can aspirin prevent strokes after major aortic surgery? new trial aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07205250
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether taking aspirin after a minimally invasive aortic arch repair can prevent strokes, a common complication. 224 patients will be randomly assigned to take aspirin for 3, 6, or 12 months. The researchers will track stroke rates, bleeding risks, and other outcomes to find the best treatment duration.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
aspirin (enteric-coated tablets, 100 mg once daily)
What this could lead to
If successful, this trial could show that taking aspirin for a specific duration after aortic arch repair reduces the risk of stroke, leading to better recovery and long-term outcomes for patients.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with a small number of participants, so results may not apply to all patients. Aspirin also carries a risk of bleeding, which could be serious after surgery.
