New blood thinner tested for safer heart procedures

NCT ID NCT00508924

Summary

This study tested if a blood thinner called argatroban is as safe and effective as the standard heparin for patients undergoing a planned procedure to open a blocked heart artery (stent placement). It involved 140 patients with stable heart disease or a certain type of chest pain. Researchers compared three different doses of argatroban against heparin, while all patients also took two common anti-clotting pills.
