First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study tested a new smartphone app designed to help teenagers aged 12 to 17 who are having suicidal thoughts. The app, called BackUp, was created with input from teens and experts to teach coping skills and create a safety plan. Researchers asked 32 teens to use the app and fill out online surveys about their experience and how they were feeling. The goal was to see if the app was easy to use and helpful, not to prove it cures suicidal thoughts.
