Can a smartphone app rewire teen brains to stop overthinking?

NCT ID NCT04697966

First seen Apr 25, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a mindfulness app can help teenagers (ages 13-18) who tend to ruminate—repetitively dwelling on negative thoughts. Participants will be randomly assigned to use the app or a control activity, and will have brain scans and cognitive tests before and after. The goal is to understand how the app changes brain function and thinking patterns, and to predict which teens benefit most.
