Blood thinner trial aims to stop deadly clots in liver patients

NCT ID NCT07461532

Summary

This study tested if the medication Apixaban can safely prevent dangerous blood clots from forming in the main vein of the liver (portal vein) after surgery. It involved 40 people with advanced liver disease (cirrhosis) who had their spleen removed. Patients took Apixaban for a year and were monitored with ultrasound scans for up to three years to see if clots developed.
