New hope to stop dangerous liver clots after surgery

NCT ID NCT07461545

Summary

This study is testing if the medication apixaban (a blood thinner) is safe and effective for treating and preventing blood clots in the main vein of the liver (portal vein thrombosis) in people with liver cirrhosis. It focuses on patients who had their spleen removed over a year ago and later developed these clots. Researchers will monitor patients for up to three years using ultrasound scans to see if the treatment dissolves clots and prevents serious complications like internal bleeding.
