Blood thinner may boost dialysis access success in kidney patients
NCT ID NCT07559942
First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking the blood thinner apixaban for a short time after surgery can help a new arteriovenous fistula (AVF) mature properly in people with end-stage kidney disease. About 190 adults will receive either apixaban or a placebo for 4-6 weeks after fistula creation. The goal is to see if apixaban reduces early failure and improves fistula readiness for dialysis, while monitoring bleeding risks.
