Could a simple pill save dialysis lifelines? new trial investigates
NCT ID NCT07559942
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a short course of the blood thinner apixaban can help new dialysis access points (arteriovenous fistulas) mature properly in people with end-stage kidney disease. About 190 adults will receive either apixaban or a placebo around the time of fistula creation surgery. The goal is to see if the drug reduces early blockage and improves the chance the fistula will be usable for dialysis.
