Radiation showdown: 3D vs. internal implants for breast cancer

NCT ID NCT00802711

First seen Apr 23, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looked at two ways to give radiation to the breast after a lumpectomy for early-stage breast cancer. One method uses a 3D machine to aim radiation from outside, while the other places tiny radioactive tubes inside the breast. The goal was to see which approach works better at killing leftover cancer cells and has fewer side effects. The trial was stopped early with only 6 participants.
