First seen Jan 23, 2026 · Last updated May 24, 2026 · Updated 15 times
Summary
This study looked at how certain natural germ-fighting proteins (antimicrobial peptides) are made in the gums of people with and without chronic gum disease. Researchers collected cheek cell samples from 29 adults aged 35-65 to measure gene activity. The goal was to learn more about why gum disease develops, not to test a new treatment.
