Hidden drug risk in seniors: common meds linked to confusion and falls
NCT ID NCT07165574
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study will review the medical charts of 100 frail older adults seen at a geriatric clinic in Denmark. Researchers want to find out how many of these patients are taking drugs that block acetylcholine, a brain chemical important for memory and alertness. These drugs can cause confusion, falls, and other serious side effects, but doctors often miss the connection. The goal is to raise awareness and improve medication safety in older people.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors recognize when medications are causing confusion or other problems in older patients, leading to safer prescribing.
What could go wrong
This is a small, retrospective chart review in one clinic in Denmark, so results may not apply to other populations. It only looks at past records, so it cannot prove cause and effect.
