Could a dab of antibiotic gel replace pills after wisdom tooth removal?

NCT ID NCT07573033

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether applying antibiotics directly into the tooth socket after wisdom tooth removal works as well as taking antibiotic pills. 90 adults having their lower wisdom teeth taken out were split into two groups: one got antibiotic gel at the surgery site, the other took pills for 5 days. Researchers tracked infections, dry socket, pain, and swelling for 14 days to see which method was safer and more effective.
