ICU antibiotic strategy tested to stop pneumonia before it starts

NCT ID NCT05079620

Summary

This study aimed to see if giving antibiotics right away to intensive care patients who may have inhaled stomach contents helps prevent pneumonia and gets them out of the ICU faster. Patients were randomly assigned to receive either a 5-day antibiotic course or standard supportive care without antibiotics. The trial was terminated early after enrolling only 5 patients, so no clear conclusions could be drawn.
