Could a common antibiotic help fight colon cancer?

NCT ID NCT05748145

Summary

This study is testing if a short course of the antibiotic metronidazole can reduce levels of a specific bacteria found in colon tumors. The bacteria, Fusobacterium nucleatum, is linked to worse outcomes and may make cancer less responsive to treatment. Researchers will give the antibiotic to 40 patients before their scheduled surgery to see if it lowers the bacteria in the tumor and changes the tumor environment.
