Cancer patients in sepsis trial: can we use fewer strong antibiotics?

NCT ID NCT03683329

Summary

This study tested if it's safe to reduce the use of powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics in cancer patients with life-threatening sepsis. Researchers compared two strategies: continuing the initial strong antibiotics versus switching to more targeted ones once the specific infection was identified. The main goal was to see if the 'de-escalation' approach was just as good at preventing hospital deaths, while also aiming to reduce the risk of creating drug-resistant superbugs.
