Antibiotic trial aims to boost survival in deadly liver disease
NCT ID NCT02281929
Summary
This study tested whether adding an antibiotic to the standard steroid treatment could help more people survive severe alcoholic hepatitis. It involved 297 adults with this serious liver condition who were at high risk of dying within two months. Researchers gave patients either the antibiotic or a placebo pill along with steroids to see if preventing hidden infections would improve survival.
