Cancer patients denied best antibiotics due to false allergy fears

NCT ID NCT07133074

Summary

This study aims to see if safely testing and removing incorrect penicillin allergy labels helps hospitalized blood cancer patients. Many patients report this allergy, but studies show 90% can actually tolerate these preferred antibiotics. Researchers will have pharmacists assess patients' allergy history and conduct tests to 'de-label' those who are not truly allergic, hoping this leads to better antibiotic use, shorter hospital stays, and fewer dangerous infections.
