Can fish oil pills fight breast cancer? early trial seeks answers

NCT ID NCT01881048

Summary

This small, early study tested whether short-term use of anti-inflammatory drugs—fish oil capsules or the medication celecoxib—could change the biology of breast cancer diagnosed around pregnancy. Researchers gave one of these treatments to 42 young women for 1-3 weeks before their scheduled surgery to see if it reduced signs of inflammation and tumor growth in the removed tissue. The main goal was to gather preliminary data to help design larger future studies, not to provide a direct treatment benefit to participants.
